Twitter is a great way to connect with educators outside your district and gain a wealth of ideas. Mariana Garcia-Serrato has a great blog post on how Twitter functions as a tool for professional development (Paccone, 2017). I am not a social media user in my personal life, and truthfully I was a bit apprehensive to use it even in a professional capacity, but I stepped outside my comfort zone for the betterment of my classroom practice. As a social media un-savvy person, I relied on this resource —“A beginner’s guide to Twitter for educators”— to get started and I recommend you do too (Teacher Practice Networks, 2016). As I continue to build my Twitter presence, I am modeling my account after the accounts of the top 55 most connect educators on twitter (Malloy, 2012).
Pinterest : Check out my Pinterest board for valuable NGSS resources, lesson ideas, and classroom management strategies.
You’ll notice that I follow a lot of education tags including Edutopia on Pinterest (Pinterest, n.d.; Edutopia, n.d.). Edutopia has a great resource that discusses using Pinterest for teaching and learning purposes (Edutopia, 2012).
Pinterest is also a great resource to use with your students. Teachers like Darcy Salvadore from Rancho Cucamonga, California (who you can also follow on Twitter) has blog posts with some really great insight into how to use Pinterest in the classroom to help students conduct research projects (Paccone, 2017).
